Arthur Russell - This Is How We Walk On The Moon

I took a nice little trip down memory lane today listening to this song. And what a treat it was. It’s such a fresh sounding song, mainly because no-one ever tries anything like this. Firstly, strings and bongos is already a relatively novel idea - when it’s just those two - but then trumpet and a dark, agressive autotune, all in the same song: that’s progressive, even if the autotune is completely unessential in this song. It’s a tune from a man that was mainly known for his dance work, but in this case diverged into something decisively different, decisively folk and blatantly original.
