Freelance Whales - Generator First Floor

Tonight, I’m disappointed. Having planned on going to a Broken Records/Freelance Whales concert, my body decided to give up on me yesterday, and thus I have been rather ill since. The too sick to go to a concert kind of ill. Which is one of the worst kinds of ill. I’d always been aware of Freelance Whales, but had never really taken much time to listen to them, so today seeing as I couldn’t go see them play, I decided to delve a little deeper. And it didn’t take much to fall in love. Generator First Floor was love at first listen. The ethereal accordion builds things up nicely before the crisp banjo is introduced, and from then on it all takes shape: a little acoustic guitar and glockenspiel never go amiss, whilst the synonymous chanting hits all the right notes. I’m starting to think it sounds like my new favourite band.

Sounds A Little Like: Megafaun, Seabear.
