Clock Opera - Belongings

It’s always a treat when you listen to a song that you hold no expectations for and you love it at first listen. It’s even better when you listen to another song by the same band - with even less expectation of it matching the quality of the first - and it equals it. Well Clock Opera have done it for me. Having known nothing about the band or the style of music beforehand, you can forgive me for thinking that as it started off as a piano ballad, it was going to continue in that matter. For what comes later is a gorgeous set of intertwining harmonies that has your head swirling and your voice chanting along. ‘Belongings’ is a crescendoing ride - from piano to Clock Opera’s own brand of electro (I hear they call it ‘chop pop’) - which is perfectly composed: both lyrically and musically. And like I said, the rest of their stuff is even more electronic, and it doesn’t disappoint.
