Beirut - Elephant Gun

It’s unfortunate that the magic of Beirut had been completely lost on me until recently. Simply because I hadn’t heard their music. But once you’ve heard a couple of songs, you want to hear them all, because it’s both gloriously original and upbeat. There’s something about horns in a song that give it that extra edge, they’re normally playing a relatively simple little ditty but it’s the kind of thing that not only contains all the richness and warmth that a bit of brass adds to a song, but it almost always makes it contagiously catchy as well. It’s a delightful combination that when done right leaves you in a good mood, and with that little horn melody buzzing around your head for the rest of the day. Almost every song they make contains such horns, but on Elephant Gun, they simply don’t get much better.
